Earth Day

The twenty-second day of April is Earth Day, 2014. For foresters, and for many others, every day is Earth Day. Forests are the living, breathing mantel that covers much of the earth's surface. Forests cleanse our air and water; stabilize our soils and cover bedrock; are home to hundreds of thousands of species of living creatures; sustain humans with consumptive goods and spiritual renewal. Trees extract carbon and store it, thereby reducing harmful greenhouse gas accumulations in the atmosphere. Trees shelter and protect all things below them and around them. Today we celebrate Earth Day. Earth Day is every day.
